Report of the High School Designation Study Group ~ January 2015

posted Feb 24, 2015, 4:34 AM by Amy Cramer
  1. The Study Group does not recommend an attempt to designate a High School at this time.
  2. The Study Group recommends continuing with the existing program of High School choice.
Reasons:
  1. A review of the financial implications of designation vs. choice does not indicate that the taxpayers in the Waits River Valley district suffer a major tax penalty for offering high school choice.
  2. Many taxpayers prefer choice rather than designation.
  3. The State of Vermont is considering changes in the educational system statewide. If designation is to be revisited, that consideration should occur after statewide changes are adopted or elected.
  4. The Study Group recommends the formation of a new Study Group to monitor and potentially influence the educational reform proposals being considered by the State.
